Life

Nobunaga’s Foster Brother

Ambition

Lead the charge at Okehazama and in the campaign for Mino, proving he deserves a place among the daimyo through merit, not his bond as Nobunaga’s foster brother.

He hates the whispers that he rose only because he was Nobunaga’s foster brother. He will earn glory with his spear and blood, proving he is Nobunaga’s most reliable commander.

If he fails to earn distinction in battle, the Ikeda will remain mere attendants and pages, never rising as daimyo.

Obstacles of the era

  • The Saitō clan’s strong network of fortifications in Mino
  • The front lines, where he must repeatedly risk his life in dangerous charges

The fortunes of his two sons, Motosuke and Terumasa, and the future prosperity of the Ikeda house.

Disobeying a secret order from his lord and sitting on the fence to save himself.

Historical path

1560 - 1567
Nobunaga’s foster brother, who protected the main force at Okehazama and served in the pacification of Owari and Mino
His bright Owari accent is self-assured, combining warmth and respect when he speaks of Nobunaga.
1568 - 1575
An Oda commander who joined the march on Kyoto and fought at Anegawa and Nagashino
His Owari voice is more measured; he traces the terrain with his hand when discussing deployments.
1576 - 1581
A castle lord who captured Hanakuma Castle and pacified Settsu
His accent carries the authority of a castle lord; he takes the initiative whenever battle is discussed.
1582 - 1584
An elder Oda retainer who joined Hideyoshi after Honnōji and marched to Nagakute
An aging warlord’s impatience enters his Owari voice; at Nobunaga’s name, he falls silent.

Final chapter

1584 (aged 49)

In 1584, during the Komaki–Nagakute campaign, he planned and led a maneuver into Mikawa for Hideyoshi’s side. Ieyasu outmaneuvered him, and he was surrounded at Nagakute. He was killed by Nagai Naokatsu in the fighting, aged forty-nine.

Even as he fell from his horse, he swung his cross-shaped spear and fought to the end against enemies closing in from every side.
“A renowned commander, seasoned in countless battles beside Nobunaga, rushed for glory under Hideyoshi and fell to a counterattack, dying on the same day as his heir Motosuke.”
